1. Scope
This policy explains how the Like a Book website, browser demo and Windows desktop application handle information. It does not replace the policies of your browser, operating system, app store, download host or network provider.
2. Information handled by the product
The product processes content you enter, including chapters, tasks, completion status, bookmarks, colors, Focus Board content, preferences and achievement state. This processing happens locally in your browser or desktop application. Like a Book does not operate an application server that receives this content.
3. Local storage
- The browser demo uses browser local storage.
- The Windows application uses its local WebView storage and keeps a recovery mirror in the application-data directory.
- The website may remember limited interface choices, such as whether the download agreement was accepted.
4. Exports and imports
You decide when and where exported JSON, TXT, Markdown and PDF files are saved. Imported files are read locally to replace or rebuild the current book. You are responsible for protecting exported files and checking a backup before overwriting existing data.
5. Website and distribution metadata
Although Like a Book does not add analytics or tracking, the service used to host the website or installer may automatically process ordinary request data such as IP address, browser information, requested URL, timestamp and download status for security and delivery. That processing is controlled by the relevant hosting provider.
6. Sharing and sale
Like a Book does not sell personal information and does not transmit your book content to advertisers. Content leaves the product only when you choose to export, copy, print, share or store it through another service.
7. Retention and deletion
Local content remains until you delete it, clear the browser’s site data, remove the applicable application-data files, or reset the device. Uninstall behavior can vary by operating system. Export a JSON backup before clearing data or reinstalling.
8. Security
Local-first storage reduces server exposure but cannot protect against every device-level risk. Use device security, trusted backups and appropriate access controls. No method of storage is guaranteed to be completely secure.
9. Children
The product is a general productivity tool and does not knowingly collect children’s personal information through an application backend. Guardians should supervise device and file-sharing use where required.
10. Changes
This policy may be updated when product behavior or distribution changes. The effective date above identifies the current version. Material changes will be reflected on this page.
