1. The service
Like a Book is a local-first productivity tool for organizing tasks and retaining completion history. Features, availability and supported platforms may change as the product develops.
2. Eligibility and acceptance
You may use the product only if you can lawfully agree to these Terms. If you use it on behalf of an organization, you confirm that you have authority to bind that organization.
3. License and permitted use
Subject to these Terms and the EULA, you receive a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable right to use the product for lawful purposes. The current download is offered free for personal use unless a separate written license says otherwise.
4. Restrictions
You must not misuse the product, interfere with its distribution, bypass security measures, use it to violate law or third-party rights, or present the product or its branding as your own. Rights not expressly granted are reserved.
5. Your content and data
You retain responsibility for content you enter or import. You confirm that you have the right to use it. Because storage is local-first, you are responsible for backups, exported files, device access and recovery. Importing replaces current content after confirmation; keep a verified JSON backup before destructive operations.
6. Software downloads and updates
Download installers only from an official distribution location. Updates may be delivered as complete replacement installers rather than differential patches. Normal in-place installation is designed to preserve application data, but you should still export a backup before upgrading, reinstalling or uninstalling.
7. Third-party components
The product depends on operating-system and browser components, including the Windows webview environment. Those components and any app store, hosting or file-sharing service are governed by their own terms and policies.
8. Intellectual property
The product, interface, branding, documentation and supplied visual assets are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. Your own content remains yours.
9. Availability and disclaimer
The product is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, no guarantee is made that it will always be uninterrupted, error-free, suitable for a particular purpose or compatible with every device. Mandatory consumer rights are not excluded.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the product provider is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, including loss of data, productivity or opportunity. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot legally be limited.
11. Suspension and termination
Your permission to use the product ends if you materially breach these Terms or the EULA. Provisions concerning ownership, disclaimers and liability survive termination where applicable.
12. Changes and precedence
These Terms may be updated as the product changes. The effective date identifies the current version. If these Terms conflict with the desktop EULA on software licensing, the EULA controls for the desktop application.
